Wokingham Mayor to open Fete

We are delighted to announce that Wokingham's new Mayor, Parry Batth, will be opening the Arborfield Village Fete.

On 21st May 2015 Parvinder Singh Batth (also known as Parry) was chosen as Wokingham's Mayor for 2015/16, the first Sikh to hold the position. In his acceptance speech, Cllr Batth said:

"Being born in Punjab to a farming family, I come from a humble background. However I now feel even more humbled being chosen as the new Mayor."

Parry retired from National Grid in 2013, after 42 years of service in the electricity supply industry. Based at the Electricity National Control Centre in Sindlesham, he managed technical engineering teams that helped keep the lights on in the UK. Since his retirement, he has helped to develop the electricity supply industry infrastructure to provide more secure and efficient power systems in India.

Parry was elected as a Wokingham Borough councillor for Shinfield North in 2011 and has chaired and vice-chaired several committees on the council. He will be opening the Fete just after 12:00.
